Fiber optic connection interface for connecting a computer host to a storage device
2025-10-23
Fiber Connectivity (FICON) is a high-speed interface developed by IBM for connecting computer hosts and storage devices. Its foreign names include FICON and Fiber Connectivity. This technology is based on the ANSI standard fiber channel protocol, compatible with S/390 servers, and supports bridging ESCON control units. Its applications cover high-speed interconnection of data centers, with core components including fiber optic connectors (such as MPO/MTP type) and optical modules.
This interface adopts a bidirectional line transmission design and supports multi-channel technology to achieve synchronous transmission of data of different scales. The EBO fiber optic connection technology launched by 3M Company solves the problem of poor contact through non-contact docking and has anti dust properties. Nvidia's innovative solution adopts single-mode fiber and silicon optical integrated polarization control, achieving a 2.7-fold reduction in packaging costs. Fiber optic connectors support high-density cabling in data centers
