The wide range of applications of fiber optic terminal boxes

2025-09-04

Fiber optic terminal boxes are widely used in local and rural network systems, data and image transmission systems, as well as in the Cable TV series. They are used for direct connection and branch connection of indoor optical cables, serving as tail fiber storage and protection joints. They are made of cold-rolled steel plates with electrostatic spraying, and have a reasonable design structure. They are aesthetically pleasing and can fix the fiber optic cable reinforcement core at the terminal.
In practical work, terminal boxes can be used as indoor junction boxes, but the use of junction boxes as terminal boxes is rarely the same,
1. The handover box can be divided into optical cable handover box and cable handover box Their functions are all used for user front-end wiring.
2. Splicing box generally refers to optical cable splicing box, also known as optical cable splice box In some places, especially in broadcasting and television systems, also known as optical splice packs, their function is to protect fiber optic cable joints from external damage. Distribution frames are also divided into fiber optic distribution frames and cable distribution frames, and their functions are similar to junction boxes, but they are used in the operator's computer room.
Basic functions
The fiber optic terminal box, as a terminal equipment for optical cable lines, should have four basic functions.
① After the fixed function optical cable enters the rack, its outer sheath and reinforcing core should be mechanically fixed, ground wire protection components should be installed, end protection treatment should be carried out, and the optical fibers should be grouped and protected.
② After the fiber optic cable with fusion splicing function is spliced with the tail cable, the excess fiber optic cable is coiled and stored, and the fusion spliced joint is protected.
③ The deployment function connects the connector attached to the tail cable to the adapter, and achieves optical path docking with the optical connector on the other side of the adapter. The adapter and connector should be able to be flexibly inserted and removed; The optical path can be freely adjusted and tested.
④ The storage function provides storage for various cross connected optical cables between racks, allowing them to be placed neatly and orderly. There should be appropriate space and methods in the fiber optic terminal box to ensure clear routing, easy adjustment, and meet the minimum bending radius requirements for this part of the optical connection line. With the development of fiber optic networks, the existing functions of fiber optic terminal boxes can no longer meet many new requirements. Some manufacturers directly install fiber optic network components such as splitters, wavelength division multiplexers, and optical switches onto fiber optic terminal boxes.
